I teach the skills that are needed to answer comprehension questions and high level writing skills as well as covering ways to use time effectively and advice on how to approach different types of questions, along with providing access to a wide range of practice papers.

My term time online courses are tailored to meet the specific requirements of a range of entrance exams. I focus on both creative writing and non-fiction writing for a purpose; comprehension skills in both written answers and multiple choice questions, vocabulary and spelling, punctuation and grammar. I offer courses for both Years 4 & 5, focusing on the development of the skills needed for 11+/Pre-Test exams.

Analysing Text and Maximising Understanding

Through the study of a wide range of classic and modern texts in my online comprehension courses, I aim to help students develop the skills required to understand fiction and non-fiction texts as well as and poetry. I enable them to use their background knowledge to put writing into context and to move beyond a literal understanding to use prediction, summarising, inference and deduction skills.

Developing Description and Technical Accuracy

I aim to provide my students with the skills required to create vivid imagery and write with technical accuracy as well as an understanding of the features of a variety of types of non-fiction writing. Students are taught the importance of powerful openings and concrete endings, how to use a range of sentence starters and structures as well as how to write cohesively and use structure to create specific effects.

Vocabulary, Problem Solving, Logic, Patterns and Codes

Reasoning tests assess skills rather than learned knowledge but the more exposure and practice that students have, the more confident that they will feel when tackling a paper. I enable my students to become familiar with the types of problems that they will meet and provide support with vocabulary, spotting patterns, understanding codes and the many other skills required.

Aiding Preparation and Instilling Confidence

I work with your child to help them understand the importance of eye contact and body language and to give them an awareness of the types of questions they may be asked in an interview. I help them to prepare by considering their strengths and weaknesses, passions and talents and what they have to offer the schools to which they are applying.
